TOKYO, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday, with the Nikkei index extending its losing streak to a sixth day, as Wall Street's overnight retreat led to a weak lead and the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar added to investor consternation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 351.69 points, or 1.57 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 22,028.32.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 34.86 points, or 1.96 percent, to finish at 1,744.01.

On the main section on Wednesday all industry categories closed in negative territory, with mining, oil and coal products, and iron and steel-linked stocks comprising those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
